The Unnoticed

An Idea to further develop this project could be to photograph the things that go unnoticed.. the things you would usually walk by, overlook, throw away... altho I may seem to be doing this already in some of my photos i think that maybe I could highlight the unnoticed more perhaps by highlighting certain areas of colour for instance..... example from flickr.

Making the unnoticed noticeable.

More recent shots

so for the past few days I've been shooting some photos out on location in industrial estates and anywhere I could find some disregarded junk!! needless to say it did not go fantastic but I did get a good few shots.

I added a black border to some of my photos... I think that it adds to the impact that a small space can make. Wat do u think??

My Photos

These are some photos i took as an experiment the other day. I was playing a bit with aperture/focus..and lighting effects. They havn't been photoshoped or anything...but this is the general idea I'm aiming for...to take photos using the ground as the cameras tripod, to view the everyday world from a different perspective...noticing the small things that we would generally walk by. I would hopefully like to go to a dumpsite or find a place where there would be alot of lost objects and photograph them...something that may have had an interesting history....something more interesting than a banana :)

Kenneth Anger Film Sequence

I was watching some Kenneth Anger short films in Joint Course this morning and in his film 'Scorpio Rising' there is this sequence of images which I found particular interesting, a collage of images and light... its about 3.00 minutes into the youtube vid...

Concrete Window -Photos from a different perspective

I could not post the concrete window photos up, but here are other ones which are similar to the idea... but click on the link!!

This is a user on flickr which I stumbled across one day. Their username is concretewindow

The photos are some of the most amazing things I've seen! S/He (?) takes photos with a different kind've perspective... alot of work they do is taken from having the camera below the knee height. Or at least that is what I would like to do. They also take photos using reflected light in things like puddles and windows.... here are some photos anyway... you'll see what I mean!! Anyway I thought this would be really interesting to do a project taking photos of everyday life, but only taking photos with the camera below the height of my knee..... this will probably be very difficult and awkward, maybe I could even strap a camera to my ankle?? but yeah I thought it might be interesting to see the body language between peoples feet... and also just looking at the world from the eyes of a small creature or something..... Ill have to do some experiments first I'm sure!!

The Light Surgeons

The Light Surgeons is a collective of designers, film makers and musicians, best known for their pioneering design of visual displays at clubs, commercial events, music tours & exhibitions. They have been at the cutting edge of multimedia sound and light installations, working across a range of media such as video, 16mm film, photography, print based design, music & spoken narrative. The Surgeons have provided creative production and toured internationally with live music acts such as the Propellerheads, Cornershop, DJ Food and Unkle and have worked with many other ground breaking independent record labels and artists. Their experiments in celluloid & digital formats have also lead to the production of promo videos, titles for broadcast, art based installations, exhibition design and live performances at many international film and new media festivals.

Fusing together digital video with stills photography, music and spoken word, they create their own form of exploded documentary that unites dance culture with film and theatre. They have developed and refined a wholly original live performance which entertains, inspires and provokes its audiences into thinking about our social and political environment.

I like the use of all the different types of multimedia... an idea which I could maybe incorporate into my work... use of sound...photosgraphy...film....narrative....

Time Lapse

I really like the idea of time lapse... I would like to make another video piece maybe with recording in 1 hour sessions, the passing of everyday life. These could then be edited together, a few different aspects of the everyday.... examples... traffic...buildings....sleeping....city centre....parks....skies....maybe something a little different like allyways or more quiet places where only one or two wander....early morning.....luas or train trip.

Light Tracks

One of my ideas about the everyday is recording the journey of light. Like a light track. I want to record while I'm in a moving vehicle and catch the light reflecting and casting shadows. Most of this will be scenic images....images while travelling. In the editing I want to merge the shadows of a certain scene with the shadows of a different scene which I have filmed while travelling. I presume the outcome will be kinda montage like.... This film piece by Hans Richter has certain qualities which I find would be related to what I want to achieve.

Because I want to film in a moving vehicle with the camera handheld I was looking at Vertov's 'Man with a Movie Camera'. He records everyday life and uses some time lapsing aswell.
